Question : my 9yr old son got sick on December 11th and went to the doctor on the 13th where he was confirmed to have the flu. He did nothing but sleep from the 11th through the 15th. The only time he woke up was when we made him take medicine or drink fluids. He was better on the 18th and went back to school on the 20th. He is still currently taking 4-5 hour naps and going to bed between 7-8pm on his own. Keep in mind this kid never naps and will not usually go to bed willingly. He is periodically crying for no reason and when asked says there is nothing wrong. This is normally a happy child. Last night we had christmas with my in laws and he started crying when it was time to take family picture and open presents. He refused to open any presents and just sat on couch crying. Could he still be experiencing affects from the flu? Could it be more physciological? Should we consult our pediatrician?

Hi... some behavioral changes are expected in some kids during influenza extremely rarely.

I think he should be out of this behaviour in another couple of weeks.

Meanwhile keep him well hydrated.
