Question : my sister is 54 years old. she fell and hurt her ankle. i attach hereto the X Ray of it.
the local Orthopaedic suggests that she fixes metal chip and anchors yet she feared the process and he thus gave it a try by using Gypsum bandage. Could you please advise your assessment of the injury and X Ray?

Thanks for posting your query.
I have seen the attached X-rays. There is a fracture of lower end of fibula with a minimal displacement. This can heal in plaster with gypsum bandage but you need to get a check X-ray done every two weeks to see if the fractured fragments are still in place or not. She should not bear any weight on the leg. This needs a bed rest. In case there is any displacement is seen after 2-4 weeks then surgical fixation may be needed.
