Question: dr. --

1. over the last 6 months I have had 3 incidents of diverticulitis,
2. the 1st time = modest pain on right side + fever, treated with antibiotics
3. the 2nd time = after a colonoscopy, dr. noted pus, inflammation, and diagnosed me with diverticulitis, then treated with antibiotics
4. the 3rd time = 2 weeks ago, I had black stool, then significant red blood in my stool while prepping for colonoscopy, the dr. diagnosed me with diverticulitis, he sealed the bleed with a clip and some spray, then I was treated with antibiotics
5. my question is as follows: I have not significantly altered my diet up to now, my options now are to try a significant alteration of my diet by favoring high fiber OR to elect colon surgery of my cecum on the right side
6. which do you recommend ?

Brief Answer:
Non surgical measures as a first line management.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query.

As per your description you are on the early stage of diverticulitis. As of now it is better to opt for non surgical options including antibiotics and diet modifications.
Surgery can be considered when there is abscess formation not responding with antibiotics and other when there is fistula formation. Surgery carries risk of recurrence and it is better to opt for non surgical intervention first.
Hope I have answered your question.
Thanks
