Brief Answer:
Lower back pain is usually musculoskeletal

Detailed Answer:
Hello, I'm Dr. Branch, thanks for using 'Ask a Doctor'. Lower back pain is a common pain, and most commonly is caused by general musculoskeletal pain, such as muscle strain and/or spasm. Treatment is usually conservative for at least the first 3 months with paracetamol, Ibuprofen, and sometimes physical therapy.

There are many other less common causes of lower back pain, such as vertebral compression fracture, nerve impingement, and narrowing of the spinal canal. Rarely, there can be serious causes such as infection or cancer, though again these are rare.

In order to give you more specific advice about your back pain, I would need to know more, such as how long you have had the pain, whether the pain goes down your legs or not, whether anything seems to make it better or worse, and if you have any other symptoms such as fever or weight loss. For your height, I would like to know your age, how tall you are, and what change in height there has been over the past couple of years.

If you can provide this information, I will hopefully be able to give a better idea what the cause of your problems could be and what you can do about them.
