Brief Answer:
Thought on this

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

Treatment would depend on the cause of the pain. The great toe can have gouty pain which can range from mild to severe depending on the degree of inflammation. Osteoarthritis is a common cause of pain there too.

If the pain is mild, and if you have no contraindications for taking an NSAID, you can try over the counter ibuprofen- taken after you have food in your stomach. This can help most kinds of inflammation and pain. But if this does not help enough or the problem is becoming worse, then do go in to have your toe examined, and possibly an X-ray to see what is going on with the joints.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information.
