Brief Answer:
Could be disc problem or stenosis etc

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Back pain can have many causes like injury, disc problem, spinal stenosis, fracture, muscle strain, etc. If this started yesterday for no reason, then its probably muscle strain which is usually associated with bloating. You can describe details of his symptoms so that I am better able to help.

I would advise him to take adequate rest and not pick any heavy weights.

He should not bend forward or take any position that exacerbates the pain.
Pain killers like tab Brufen 200 mg twice a day can be taken. It is a mild pain killer.
If this pain killer doesnot help then stronger pain killer like aceclo-MR can be taken twice a day. This medicine is a muscle relaxant also and he will require complete rest for 24 hrs including avoid driving or operating heavy machinery.
If bloating is there, then gasex tablet can be taken.
If this doesnot decrease in severity by itself in 2-3 days then consultation with orthopedic specialist is needed. He may advise XRay or CT scan or MRI scan to find cause.

Hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

this pain occurs to him 2-3 times in a year. when there is weather change or when he gets overburdened with his work. He also pick heavy weight at work at times.

He has also reduced weight in the past few month.

Brief Answer:
Seems disc problem

Detailed Answer:
Hi again
Thanks for clarification.

If this happens or started after picking heavy weights, then its related to disc herniation. Once disc herniation happens then we need to avoid picking heavy weights at all.
Anyways orthopedic surgeon will be able to confirm the diagnosis. They usually conduct X ray to start with. MRI scan will confirm extent of problem of nerves or disc problem.
