Question : I had a total hysterectomy back on Dec. 17, 2011. For the last 2 months when my husband and I are together. I have been experiencing spotting and now bleeding after. I made an appt. to see my Gyno for Monday. However, I am concerned why am I bleeding or spotting?

Thanks for your query.

Postcoital bleed has to be evaluated in detail. There are multiple causes for such bleeding, sexually transmitted infections, trauma, vaginal dryness in case of menopause etc. These can be addressed well with a short course of medications.

The other serious cause for such post coital bleeding is cancer cervix, though the incidence of it is very less compared to the above causes, it has to be ruled out at once.

Do consult your gynecologist at the earliest, who might do a speculum vaginal examination and order for a pap smear with or without an ultrasound scan. This will provide the necessary information to address the problem well.
