Worried About My 4 Month Old Has Reduced His Milk Intake As Well Is This Because Of The Thumb Sucking Habit? Can A Pacifier Help?

Question: Need help with boils occurring on my 4 month old baby.

My baby boy is 4 months old and is suffering from boils which pop up on his head. His head seems more hot than his body in comparision. Why does his happen? A doctor we visited before suggested to apply Muporicin ointment. When it happened last time, the boil erupted and we could see puss as well. This time it has not erupted but is subsiding. Please let me know what I can do and why this is happening.
He has now taken to sucking his thumbs as well and is constantly doing it. He has reduced his milk intake as well. Is this because of the thumb sucking habit? Can a pacifier help? I am worried that he is losing weight instead of gaining.

Brief Answer:
Hygiene, daily bath, check for immunoglobulin levels
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Boils on head is usually because of bacterial infection. It is usually contagious, spreads from people who touch and handle baby. It an also spread from unclean clothes, coverings, beds, etc.
Ensure proper hygiene, frequent hand washing by adults before lifting or touching baby.
Daily bathing is essential for the baby.
If boils are frequent despite all hygiene measures, then his immunoglobulin levels need to be checked for immune deficiency.
You can discuss about this with your doctor.
Mupirocin will help this time too.
Avoid pacifiers. Thumb sucking needs to be attended by frequent breastfeeding. Baby gets pleasure in thumbsucking, which needs to discouraged( keep removing thumb, always have someone to attend to baby, never leave baby alone, keep baby engaged with toys, music and diversions while he is awake).
Frequent breastfeeding will definetly improve his weight.
