135. Based On This, My Doc Recommended A Nuclear Stress Test. Would A Echo-cardiogram Be An Acceptable Alternative To The Nuclear Test?

Hi, I just had a stress test and my EKG was normal, but it took me only 4 minutes to reach my recommended heart rate of 135. Based on this, my doc recommended a nuclear stress test. Would a echocardiogram be an acceptable alternative to the nuclear test? I would rather not have the radioactive dye as I have already had radiation therapy for prostate cancer. Im 61, 160 lbs, 5 ft six inches tall, low cholesterol, 119, normal blood pressure, 118 over 74. My symptom for the last month was slight dull pain or tightness in left chest, but it gos away when I walk or exercise, instead of getting worse.

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

The nuclear test is much more sensitive than any other test like echocardiography. The radioactivity is insignificant in nuclear test and will not cause any problems to your radiation therapy for prostate. You may choose echocardiography after discussing with your doctor but the results will be less sensitive.
