2 Year Old Has Pain In Ears, Tried To Keep Warm, Given Calpol, Bough Mixture, No Help. Any Other Remedy ?
My 2 year old has pain in her ear or ears. She currently has a cold since Friday and for the past 2-3 hours she s crying in pain because of this. I have called the out of hours NHS service and have advised been to keep her ears warm which i m trying and if it worsens call back. She s also had calpol and cough mixture to help but is still crying and complaining of this problem. There is no puss or signs of bleeding and I can t see any redness in her ears. Her temp has also been normal aswell. How long should I wait till I call somebody back or is there anyhing else I should try to help her first?
Any pain of the ear which does not respond to routine pain killers must definitely be examined by the doctor so that more serious lesions can be ruled out. In most of the cases it will just be a mild infection which can be effectively treated but please do not take any chance.
Also since her ear keeps paining then it is imperative that her ear drum is examined for any abnormality. She may also require an audiological assessment for further analysis.
avoid giving her head bath for a couple of days and do not meddle with her ears.
take care and get well soon
