22 Month Old Getting Frequent Ear Infections. Grommets Surgeries Done. Concerned About The Prolonged Use Of Antibiotics

Hi my daughter is 22 months and is constantly having ear infections - otitis media . She has even had 2 gromments surgeries in 6 months. She is constantly on antibiotics . We are now concerned about the prolonged dosage of antibiotics and were looking at ayurvedic options. A friend of mine recommended Septilin produced by Himalaya. I was wondering whether that will be helpful to her situation and should start her on that.

hello

Thanks for writing to H.C.M. for your query.

I have gone through your query regarding recurrent ear infection , and she had been operated for grommet twice in such an small age of 22 months.

Your daughter is only 22 months old, and here I would like to tell you that ear gets infected from two routes-

(a) External- here the middle ear gets infection from external atmosphere that is from external ear and through hole of grommet infection gets way to enter in the middle ear. Therefore you should care to cut down the infection from external ear. You should ear clean and dry.

(b) Internal- This is the commonest route in new born and children because eustachian tube is short and wide in these age group. Here infection is usually resides in nose and throat.

So I would like to suggest you that you should use antibiotic as per culture and sensitivity test report of throat swab and ear pus, to get exillent result. Keep her ear clean and dry, and protect the child from getting cold and sore throat.

I hope this will help you.

Regards.
