Hello. I'm sorry you're so uncomfortable. Although it isn't possible to diagnose your condition without an examination, it sounds like you've developed a condition called pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of
pregnancy (
PUPPP). This is a mouthful of terms we physicians use to describe a condition we don't understand very well. PUPPP usually begins during the third trimester of pregancy, and it is characterized by intensely itchy bumps and/or
hives that often start in stretch marks; the inner thighs are commonly affected first, but the rash often spreads to the buttocks and occasionally spreads to the remainder of the body.
PUPPP can be difficult to treat. Oral antihistamines (e.g.,
Benadryl) are mildly effective. Topical
corticosteroids often help, but some patients require oral corticosteroids for relief. PUPPP typically lasts 4 to 6 weeks before resolving spontaneously.
I suggest you see your doctor to confirm your diagnosis and discuss your options for treatment.
I hope that helps, and good luck with your upcoming delivery!
