5+ Years After Cerebral Anerysm Coiled, Experiencing Daytime Sleepiness, How To Ask For Provigil To Be Covered Under Insurance?
5+ years ago I had a cerebral anerysm coiled. Including the work-up, procedural and post procedural follow-ups I have had multiple CT scans (including 2 3-D). About 6 months after the procedure (an I am glad to be alive) I began developing mentation issues, including slowed thinking, daytime sleepiness and such. I cannot tolerate adderal and as a health care professional I have to remain alert. The insurance will not cover Provigil because I did not meet the criteria of narcolepsy (into REM within 20 min). The cost is prohibative ( $450 /month). Do you have any suggestions on what other approach I could take to appeal the decision from the insurance co.? Thank you.
Hi and thank you so much for this follow up precision.
I am so sorry to hear about these symptoms that you have reported and the difficulties getting this drug covered by your insurance company. The ideal thing would have been for the doctors to say your sleep studies support the use of this drug but, it is professionally and ethically wrong. There is really no way going about it and I will suggest that you look for alternative ways to fund for this.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information should need be.
