6' 260 Male Age 42 Never Been Diagnosed With Anything

6' 260 male age 42 never been diagnosed with anything but if I have anything odds are would be pre-diabetic or a slow thyroid. My question is (this has happened last night and last week) but when I went to urinate, I turned the fan on and thought I smelled ash. I felt it was my urine but could have been the bathroom fan. Just now I went to urinate at work and smelled a more subtle ash smell (bathroom is bigger so may be why it was subtle). I have smelled bad urine in the past (especially when I need to be on more water and less other drinks) but this ash smell, it is so distinctive. I don't feel there is any infection (no blood, no sickness feeling, etc) but I am not a doctor. Last week is the first time I have ever had this smell (I would remember this b/c it is distinct). I don't want to go to the long process of going to a urologist if odds are that I need to stay better hydrated and cut out some sodas (I know I do and will). I know you cannot diagnose per se but just what are the possibilities and a strong guess.
