It sounds like Herpes simplex (viral rather than bacterial). Try to put some ointment like fourderm on affected area like ears and scalp lightly when child goes to sleep at night but still confirm with your doctor. Check fingers and toes for redness as well. Normally with teething, it spreads as child puts toes, fingers in mouth and then touch everywhere. Try cleaning child's hands, toes gently few times with mild soap and water. Start Bio-combination 21 (made in Germany) for teething. 2 pills every 4-5 hours (these dissolve quickly, place these under child's tongue or in corner of mouth inside the lip, then child will cover it with saliva quickly. Hopefully this will help, still ask a good paediatrician.
