7 Weeks Pregnant, Light Spotting, Cramps. Is This The Cause For Concern?

Hi. I am 39 years old and in my sixth - almost seventh - week of pregancy. I have not had a scan yet and this is my first pregnancy. During the past 24 hours, I have had some very light spotting of a reddish-brown color - no more than about five spots on my panties over the entire time. I have not had any other significant changes in my symptoms, just some mild, period-like cramps from time to time. It is the weekend, so I can't reach my midwife. Should I be concerned? Should I go to the hospital? Thank you!

Hi,
Thanks for discussing your problem with us.
Any bleeding however minor & cramps should raise concerns in pregnancy. This may settle on it's own, but, to get this evaluated by visiting a hospital & having one trans-vaginal ultrasound, to ensure a normal healthy pregnancy & to rule out other complications like ectopic pregnancy & threatened miscarriage.
Meanwhile take rest & avoid sex.
Best wishes.
