9 Year Old Complained Of Headache, Ice Pack Relieves Temporarily, But Recurs. What Could It Be ?
My 9 year old daughter usually sleps soundly. Last night she woke up complaining that her head hurt. She took some panadol, had a wet cloth on her head and drank water. She eventually slept. In the morning the pain had not gone. An ice pack releives the pain for short time but then it returns. She has never had headaches in the past. What could it be? Thanks
The commonest cause of headache in a child could be pediatric migraine.
As of now, please continue the symptomatic treatment, such as ibuprofen. However, if headache persists for more than 72 hours, or if she has repeated vomiting, blurring of vision, etc, then take her to a doctor for evaluation.
She may require a brain scan to look for any internal problems.
Best wishes,
