A Lot Of Pain From Wisdom Tooth Extraction
Please Help! A lot of pain from wisdom tooth extraction I had my wisdom teeth extracted 3 days ago, and when he pulled out one of the teeth the root did not come out. amy face on that side is extremely swollen and painfull. I am not sure if he removed the rest of the root. There is also a funny taste in my mouth possibly from drainage. The rest of my mouth seems to be healing quite well. I am not sure if what I am experiencing is just normal or if I need to call him to check it out. What should I do??

Wisdom tooth extraction is a complicated procedure and is often associated with pain , fever , swelling , difficulty in mouth opening, dry socket, numbness in tongue, lip of the ipsilateral side.
I suggest you to visit the dentist and get the OPG done to check for the remaining root piece and get it removed if any piece remaining there.
Take tab augmentin 625 mg twice , tab ebility thrice, gargle with warm saline water 3 to 4 times a day , use antiseptic mouth wash and prevent food retention in that area.

According to your history i can suspect some remnant of the wisdom tooth or the root piece had left un extracted which has undergone infection.
The infection has gone worse and you have developed a periodontal abscess due to spread of infection to the underlying tissues.
This type of periodontal abscess drains in the oral cavity and may lead to nausea, vomiting and fowl taste in mouth as you have mentioned.
This type of periodontal abscess needs to be drained and compressed in position and then followed by a course of antibiotic and analgesic will subside the symptoms of pain and swelling.
once the abscess is drained the infected root piece can be extracted .

Since you had undergone traumatic extraction,the pain will be very severe.
I would suggest you get a check-up to confirm whether the tooth has extracted completely.
Meanwhile,take rest for a minimum period of 7 days.
Avoid anxiety and stressful jobs.
Gargle frequently using warm saline and betadine rinse.
Maintain oral hygiene well.
Avoid frequent spitting as well as impinging the extraction socket using fingers/toothpicks etc.
Take complete course of antibiotics too.

According to your clinical history i suppose that there can be a chance of any broken root piece left in the socket causing infection or presence of dry socket to rule out this you need to visit the Dentist and get an x-ray done, any left over root particle can be removed surgically.
Take a course of antibiotics and analgesics..
Follow the post extraction instructions properly.
Take lukewarm saline and antiseptic mouthwash rinses.
The periodontal abscess when drained in the oral cavity leads to nausea and vomitting.
I would encourage you maintain a good oral hygiene and after the pain and swelling subsides the root piece can be extracted.

Hi... Presence of swelling indicates presence of inflammation.. If this swelling has been recent and in is worsening, then you may have to visit your doctor again..
Hi, it is normal to have pain and swelling if the extraction was traumatic or surgical. Please take painkillers and antibiotics along with warm saline or betadine gargles. It would be better to get the site irrigated with betadine for faster healing and pain reduction. If there is a root in the socket, it may or may not give you problem later. If it is small, it may resorb in the socket. It may get infected and cause pain and swelling if is not small enough to get resorbed. Please consult an oral surgeon for a second opinion. Take care!

as you said that 3 days of extraction ....this will take 5-10 days of complete healing....there should be reduced mouth opening but nothing to worry.....take proper course of antibiotics and take ketorol DT if their is much pain and combination of amoxicyllin 500 mg and clavunic acid 125 mg....go to dentist and take radiograph of that region to confirm any remaining root......

hello pain usually extends from the day one till seventh day ,take proper antibiotics,pain killers,salt water gargling...wait for 7 days,if ur getting severe pain or drainage of pus,then go to oral surgeon for further advice.....
