First, talk to your doctor. Make sure your cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar levels are checked, you may have other problems that need addressing. Second, ask the doctor if you are a candidate for heart surgery to correct the blood flow around the heart. Most folks are doing a bypass graft these days, but only if indicated. If the blockage is small, it is safer not to cut. Third, join a gym and start a cardiac rehab work put program. Keep your weight down. Fourth, talk to a nutritionist about healthy eating. Consider adding fish to your diet for the omega fatty acids -- they have been shown to help the heart. Fifth, did your doctor give you some nitro pills? If not, ask about them. Also, ask if you are a candidate for an ACE inhibitor. If your blood pressure can tolerate this, it has been shown to help repair damaged hearts. If your doctor does not want you on a blod thinner, ask if a daily aspirin is a good idea.
