AST And ALT Results Abnormal, Bilirubin Level Abnormal. Regular Exercise. What Is Going On?

hey there doc,

so my question is regarding hi ast and alt results.
Ast 167 and alt 64..with Bilirubin total 1.5.
I feel that I'm in excellent health I do exercise very heavily and I believe this might be a result with blood work -currently doing a hundred day challenge of one hour spinning classes.
my doctor recommended that I do another blood work but what should I do or not do leading up to my next lab work?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
AST and ALT are two liver enzymes which are released in blood during damage to the liver cells.
The normal levels of both the enzymes is 0-40 IU/L.
Your report indicates a high AST level but ALT level is within normal limits.
This is only a margival increase in the level of AST.
In liver cell injury and necrosis, there is concurrent increase in the levels of both the enzymes and the increase is quite high.
The normal level for total bilirubin is between 0.3-1.0 mg/dL.
The increase in total bilirubin is marginal.
Bilirubin consists of two components- direct and indirect.
Direct and indirect levels have to be determined to know the type of disease process.

The increase is only marginal so nothing much to worry.
Direct and indirect bilirubin levels can help further.
You can post the levels of direct and indirect bilirubin for further work up.
Thanks and take care.
