Abdominal Cramps, Tenderness, Bad Odor From Navel. On Bactrim DS And Doxycycline. Do I Need IV Antibiotics?
I am a RN so I am aware of the risk I take at work daily But because i am human first i am concerned!! I noticed ab cramping radiating from navel, tenderness and a foul order from navel a few days ago. I went to Dr. Cultures was positive for proteus and e coli. I am taking bactrim DS and doxycycline. Will this cure me? Do i need further test or labwork? Do i need iv antibiotics? OMG!! could this bacteria be present in or on other areas of my body? I am a Damn wreck! Never had an infection?
Hi, Welcome to HCM. IV antibiotics are preferred only during multidrog resistant infections or deep, systemic infections. As yours seems to be a superficial infection, you have been prescribed right antibiotics which are usually effective against Proteus and E.coli. You do not require any more lab work. But I would like to stress upon taking universal precautions while dealing with patients in the hospital, as health care workers are more prone for occupational exposure to infections. Thanks.
