After Unprotected Sex Took Pill. Have Menstural Cramps,missed Period. Pregnancy Test Negative. Delayed By The Pill?

Hi...I took an i pill after unprotected sex about 2-2and half weeks ago....I am feeling menstural cramps from last one week but periods have not yet started. I did pregnancy test twice but it is negative. Is the periods delayed because of taking i pill? Also yday we gain had unprotected sex and my husband is doubtful that he might have ejaculated pre cum inside me however he didnt come inside. Can i take another i pill to be on safer side. Please advise.

Hello,

It is quite common & normal phenomena to delay period following taking the I-pill and it occurs mostly due to hormonal imbalance & mental stress. It gives protection more than 95% if it is taken within first 24 hrs.

Unprotected sex around period due date is quite safe and chance of being pregnant is nil literally.

Here, you need to undergo one blood test for beta-HCG to confirm pregnancy as early pregnancy test is less significant. Following test report, you can consult with gynecologist for next line management.

In exclusion of pregnancy, you can start to take combined OCP instead of emergency pill. It gives highest protection with regularization of period.
