Allergic Reaction To Augmentin, Developed Non-itchy Redness And Warmth Around, Needles Sensation On Ankles And Wrist. Any Ideas ?

Hi Doctor...
my daughter had a late (i.e. after the full 10 day dose) allergic reaction to Augmentin/Amoxicillin. She developed a rash (non-painful, non-itchy but with redness and warmth around the rash area) which moved around over the days all over her body. Now it's been almost 10 days (been on Benadryl when the rash is severe) and the rash is almost gone. However, she has developed an "itchy feeling" accompanied by severe pins and needles on her ankles and the inside of her wrist. This feeling seems to be exacerbated when heat is applied (including in the hot shower). Any ideas?

Hi, it might not be a reaction to the drug, as it is already completed, or may be allergic to to its break down products. Other causes may be due to the fever or infection, which resulted in the rash and the joint pains.
I advise you to consult a physician for diagnosis and treatment. Thank you.

Hi Thanks for using HCM.

The rash after augmentin suggest allergic reaction for penicillin group of drugs. I advice you to avoid any penicillin group of drugs to her in future.
For the current problem of itching, she can take anti histamine tablets along with steriods for short period of time.Avoid hot water bath, let it be body warm and also avoid direct sun exposure.
It is good sign of healing and this will disappear in few days of time.

Hope this cleared your query. Wish you good health.

Regards
