Am I Anorexic?

Hi!I was wondering if I'm anorexic or not...I'm 1m61 and weigh 44 kg.Sometimes I eat loads (I never, ever make my self sick after eating), but I do miss a meal three or four times a week, because I'm not hungry.I don't have the normal symptoms of anorexia. I don't count calories, and I don't mind eating in public and I don't obsess my self with weight (as long as I'm not gaining any)I'm not at all ill in anyway.I'm I just thin? Coz people seem to worry about it...

Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.

Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder characterized by the following core features:

- Refusal to maintain a body weight that is at or above the minimum normal weight for your age and height
- Intense fear of gaining weight or becoming fat, even though you're underweight
- Denying the seriousness of having a low body weight, or having a distorted image of your appearance or shape
- In women who've started having periods, the absence of a period for at least three consecutive menstrual cycles

In your case, your weight of 44kg is definitely below the minimum normal; your BMI works out to just 17. But you don't seem to have any of the other core features, which makes the diagnosis of an anorexia nervosa unlikely. However, you definitely need a detailed evaluation to find out why your weight is so low and necessary steps have to be taken to normalize the same.

Wish you all the best.
