Am Pregnant. Had Vaginal Bleeding, No Cramps, Abdominal Pain. GP Gave Injection With Progesterone Tablet. Side Effect?

Hi
I am 7 week pregnant, yesterday night i had light bright red vaginal bleeding without any cramps or abdominal pain.
My GP gave a injection Maintain 200 ml along with a Progesterone tablet. I am already on Thyroxine 100 mg and Folic acid.
In morning i didnt have any fresh bleeding. I would like to know whether such bleeding have any side effect on my fetus or any danger of abortion. Further more what precautions should i take in such case.

Hi, a 7 weeks pregnancy with bleeding P.V suggest abortion, it is to be tested for the type of abortion, threatened abortion, it is only a threat, it can be stopped by treatment. There are another 2 types, inevitable abortion is to be terminated, there is no chance of preventing. So i advise you to consult a gynecologist for diagnosis and treatment. Thank you.

General & Family Physician Dr. Vasudha's  Response
Hi,
Bleeding at 7 weeks gestation does indicate threatened Abortion (possibility of abortion to occur.).In advanced case it is accompanied by uterine contractions/cramps along with bleeding.
The abortion at this stage is mostly because the protective hormones to fetus are deficient.
The bleeding you had was probably beginning of the episode. & the deficiency is promptly treated-so the bleeding stopped. Still it's better to get a sonography done to confirm well being of baby.
In such cases of threatened abortion I usually advice patient to
* take a complete bed rest.
* stick to the treatment regime advised by treating Doctor.
* Avoid physical & psychological stress.
* Take light & nourishing diet.
* The hormone replacement is continued to cover the risky period. (Usually up to 3.5 months gestation.
I hope, I have answered your query to satisfy you.
Thank you.
