Anxiety, Depression. Could It Be Due To Alcohol Consumption?

Lately I have been extremely tired and having anxiety and depression . I drink some alcohol on the weekends, mainly Saturday nights and I consume around 12 -15 drinks. I don t drink anything during the week. I also do not drink water as much as I should and I drink lots of coffee and cokes throughout the work week. I don t know if alcohol is the problem or if it s just a poor diet in combination with everything else. I do sleep 6-9 hours per night. Is there anything you can recommend that can help me overcome this?

Hi there, thanks for asking. You have mentioned to very good points. Sleep hygiene includes several important points about caffeine and alcohol. caffeine should be used up to 300 mg a day which is equivalent to 3 cups of coffee. If you drink coke, you can look to be aware of its caffeine and you should drink less than 2-3 cups of coffee a day. Drinking alcohol during the weekend change the architecture of your sleep (decreases the deep sleep which is very important for body refreshment) and also changes your circadian cycle which can continue for several days. These factors cause chronic insomnia and chronic insomnia causes fatigue (feeling extremely tired), depression and anxiety. I wish you the best health.
