General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Sorry to know about this.
The inability to pass urine after removal of the urethral catheter indicates that the prostate may be enlarged as a part of aging process or as a part of an infection or edema due to trauma of catheterization.
Per-rectal examination by a Surgeon can know whether this is prostatitis or something else, aided by ultrasonography, Blood PSA test for Cancer and so on.
Please get examined, investigated, and treated according to the cause.
He needs re-catherization or suprapubic drainage.
