Any Suggestion For Elevated Liver Enzyme When Taking Statin For High Cholesterol?

Good Day,



I have high cholestrol ( Total-260) and when i take Statin medcn my liver enzymes go over three times than normal.If i am not taking medicine my heart is at risk and if take medicine my liver is at risk how to come out from this dilema..??? i am worried..

Yes, indeed statins cause a rise in liver enzymes in some patients and definitely they are the best available drugs for managing lipid disorders.
If you do not have any baseline liver damage and you have normal liver profile with no additional risk factors like alcohol, medicines etc, your physician take a chance with close monitoring. However he may not be ready to do so and you have to resort to life style modifications to control cholesterol. These include daily exercise, weight optimization, diet optimization. Non-statins can also be tried but there benefit is not as marked as statins.
