Any Suggestion For Pemphigus Vulgaris With Two Treatments Of Rituximab?
my son has pemphigus vulgaris and has had two treatments of rituximab and still has episodes in his mouth and on his feet. Do you have any suggestions on a next plan of action? He does low doses of steriods to keep it at bay but doesn t want to stay on them forever.
Hi there. I hear your concerns & share your views. However, I am not a big fan of monoclonal antibodies given their cost & side effects & do not find their effectiveness worthwhile either. How old is your son? Low doses of steroids will not help & cause more side effects over a period of time. I find steroids & immunosuppresants effective in what we allude to as a DCP therapy (high dose dexamethasone(steroid), cyclophosphamide 'pulse' therapy). However, this requires close monitoring of vitals & for medications to be administered in a hospital set-up. Do wish your son all the very best & if in the Bangalore area, would be happy to be of further assistance & consult at Vikram Hospital. Wish your son a disease free existence soon.
