Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thank you for posting your intresting questions.

1. hiv/253657?iL=true" >AIDS is the name of the disease and also denotes the full blown manifested stage of the disease, whereas HIV is the name of the virus causing AIDS and also denotes the ealy infection without any obvious manifestation. It is well manageable disease and not curable totally at present.
2. Presently it is a life long disease, though they claimed a total cure with 2 patients.
Earliest symptoms are flu like presentation with fever, head ache and may likely to miss by many doctors. The real symptoms of weight reduction, persistant fever, diarrhea, lung disease, cancers, and brain diseases can occur very lately after the immune system damaged toatlly -- After 7- 10 years or even more.
3.Protective sex is the best prevention. There are drugs available as a prophylactic when anybody accidentally exposed to this disease and has to be taken as early as possible -- within 24 hours. After 72 hours there is no use in taking these drugs.
4 HIV positive individual if folowed the giudelines of his physician well, then he/she can live a decent and healthy life for not less than 25 years and even more.
