My son has visitation with his son one weekend a month. For the last seven months, his son has come sick. Cough, fever, not feeling well. His other family is constantly ill. They have a 5, 3 1.5 and newborn. We suspected that either strep was never healing in my grandson, of he because of poor hygene at the other home, was becoming reinfected. Today, we took him into urgent care and a short test, determined Strep a. He received Amox. This will have to go home with him and hopefully compliance will be high. I have been sick numberous time days after his visits. This last time costing me $170 dollars for antibiotics, as I developed pnemonia. Not only do I not want to be ill, I have another grandson I visit with Hemophilia B, and I cannot be sick or get him sick as he is in and out of the hospital. How do I best help my son and myself to monitor my grandsons Strep propensity to see if he is a carrier, even when well? I also do not want him to have to take antibiotics consistently. Mn concerned Grandmother and mother of three.
