Are Diovan, Metformin, Lipitor, Omerprazole And Elavil Advisable For A Diabetic?
As an 80 year old man, with diabetes 2, I am taking the following drugs: DIOVAN, METFORMIN, LIPITOR, OMEPRAZOLE AND ELAVIL WHAT ARE THE USES OF THESE DRUGS: -- THEIR BENEFITS OR HARMS? FURTHER, WHAT IS THE LENGTH OF TIME ONE SHOULD BE ON THESE DRUGS. I VE BEEN ON MOST OF THEM FOR OVER 15 YEARS, AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE ARE OTHER DRUGS THAT COULD POSSIBLY DO A BETTER JOB FOR CONTROLLING MY DIABETES 2?
Diovan is used for high blood pressure. Metformin is used for diabetes, lipitor is a medication used for high cholesterol. Omeprazole is used for reflux and elavil is used to help with nerve related pain or abnormal sensations such as tingling, numbness , burning etc.
Only metformin is for your blood sugar/diabetes. If your levels are still high the dose can be adjusted or additional medication added to it. Diabetes can be controlled by oral medication or injections along with diet and exercise. Metformin is mainly associated with GI side effects eg constipation, diarrhea, indigestion, nausea
These medications can be used long term as long as the condition exists, there is no time limit once they are working well with minimal problems.
I hope this helps
