Are Ecosprin And Clopitab Similar To Aspirin?

I just saw an advisory that persons my age should carry Ecospirin 325 Atorvastatin 80 mg and clopitab 40 as an emergency relief in heart attack till medical help is received. In other countries they talk of carrying nitroglycerin tabs and baby aspirins(28 mg) Question: Aren t ecospirin and clopitab aspirin only? Why do we prescribe such high dosages? Isn t Atorvastatin (Lipitor) a cholesterol medicine to be given on regular basis rather than for immediate relief? Is it fast acting enough to affect the blood as an emergency medicine?

Hi,

Thanks for writing to HCM.

Ecospirin is nothing but aspirin. It is prescribed as low dose aspirin in the form of 75mg as a preventive measure in persons with risk of coronary artery disease. But to prevent blood clotting in emergency, its dose is a bit high of 325 mg.
Atorvastatin is a cholesterol lowering agent. It is prescribed in emergency as it is clears of lipids when given in high doses and benefits patients with acute coronary syndromes.
Clopitab is another drug which works by helping to prevent harmful blood clots that may cause heart attacks or strokes.

Mechanism of action of Aspirin and Clopidogrel is different and hence both drugs are used in case of emergency situations. For regular preventive measures, commonly Aspirin with Atorvastation combination is used or Clopidogrel alone is used.

Hope the information provided is useful.
