My husband just recently passed away from a blood clot in leg that broke off and went to heart & both lungs. He rec d Lupron shots for 2 years due to prostate cancer. Could this have caused the blood clots. It was a massive blood clot. The only sympton was hard to breathe.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI,
Thanks for the query. I amm sorry to know about your husband.I understand your concern.
Injection Lupron is given subcutaneously & is known to cause redness/ stinging pain, bruising at the site of injection.ITs not known to cause clotting as a side effect.
The drug is given to control estrogen dependent carcinomas. & estrogen has a rare side effect of forming clot ..causing stroke like problem. So more possible is the disease itself had created the clot which proved risky for your husband causing breathing difficulty ( probably pulmonary embolism ).
Thanks.
