Are Monovisc And Euflexxa Similar To Cortisone?

I have had Synvisc injections in my left knee now for 2 years, each series of 3 shots have lasted me 12 mo each, but now. Aetna won t cover Synvisc, but want me to try, Monovisc or Euflexaa. I feel that I have had good success with Synvisc. I like the idea of being derived from the rooster comb and feel it is btter for my knee than cortisone, so what is Monovisc and Euflexaa, are they a type of cortisone? Ron

These medicines are not similar to Cortisone.

Synvisc, Monovisc and Euflexxa are brand formulations of the Hyaluronic acid. These medications are not the type of Cortisone and also not similar to Cortisone.

Hyaluronic acid is similar to a substance that occurs naturally in the joints. It supplements the fluid in your knee to help lubricate and cushion the joint and helps the joints to work properly.

Both Monovisc and Euflexaa are equally effective in the treatment of osteoarthritis hence can be taken as advised by your doctor.
