Are Phexin And Atarax Drops Advisable For Running Nose And Cough In An Infant?

Doctor, Our 8 month old daughter has got running nose and cough for 3 days. 3 months back, we gave Phexin pedia drops and Atarax. Shall we give that both drops again? Our elder daughter has just recovered from cold. We gave her Azithral jun(her favourite after trying everything lesser that that 6 months back).

Hello,

There is no need of Phexin drops as it is an antibiotic. As your baby doesn't have any fever, there is no need of any antibiotic. The following are my recommendations:
1) You can use saline nasal drops to to relieve nasal congestion.
2) Make her drink warm water.
3) You can give Atarax drops or syrup mantra daily once for 3 days.
4) Steam inhalation if your baby can do it.
If your baby gets fever or if cough doesn't come down even after 3-4 days, you can then give Phexin drops.
