Are Air Bubbles Normal With An Ear Infection?

Hi, my name is Sara. I brought my almost 3 yr old to the ped. two days ago. They prescribed augmentin. She said it looked like an air bubble or maybe a hair was in his ear, or maybe even a perferated ear drum. I don t want him to take unnecessary drugs, and they wont refer my to the ENT. I was wondering if air bubbles are normal with an ear infection?
