Are Altered Bowel Movements And Increased Weight Gain Symptoms Of Crohn S Disease?

Does my husband have Crohn s disease? He has sudden urges to go, but has accident before he gets there. After 5 years of marriage, he tells me he s had this problem all his life, used to be spanked for it. I think it could be dairy or sugar or sulfites... He doesn t exercise; weighs 250 or so. Recently had a colonoscopy where they removed a couple non-cancerous pollips, by a gastrointestonal doctor. Help?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Altered bowel movement can be due to IBS, Crohn's disease, malabsorptive syndrome, endocrine & Psychiatric disorders, lactose intolerance, etc. Other factors that cause such symptoms are anxiety, stress, depression, panic disorder, substance abuse, food allergy, increase bowel motor response to stimuli. Changes in diet & lifestyle should be made after clinical examinations, investigations/ test. Dietitian will be help for diet charts. You are suggested to get your husband a thorough medical examination done. So that the factors & pathology is detected & treated at the earliest.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
