Are Antibiotics Advisable For Pus Pockets On Tonsils?

hi my son has been diagnosed with mono. I know that sore throat is a symptom and that it is a virus. However, he has puss pockets on his tonsils. Should he also be on an antibiotic. His family doctor did not prescribe any. Thanks YYYY@YYYY

Hi..
Thanks for your query..

As per your question Mono (Infectious Mononucleosis) is a viral infection and antibiotics are given in case of bacterial infection. So if an antibiotic is given in case of diagnosed viral infection it will not help in relieving the patient.

As mono is self limiting and disappears itself and treatment is based on relieving the symptoms like pain and fever..

Doing warm saline gargles, taking soft and less spicy food, and Ibuprofen or Paracetamol (as per doses prescribed by doctor according to age of patient) in case of pain and inflammation can be helpful.

Drinking warm milk with a pinch of turmeric at bedtime can be helpful.

Hope your query is solved..

Thanks and regards..
