Are Black Stool A Side Effect Of Noriday Contraceptive Pill?
Hi, I just started taking the contraceptive pill called Noriday. (4 days) There is only a 2 hour window in which it can be taken each day, and I have missed that window once or twice but still took it. I have noticed I have black (tarry) stool. Is this due to an ingredient in the contraceptive pill or is it a sign of something else?
As per my clinical experience, the black stool known as melena, is not a common side effect of Noriday contraceptive pill. There can be various possibilities for the same such as: - Acute gastritis with occult blood in stool via peptic ulcer - Simultaneous intake of iron preparations - Others
Kindly take a lab report of stool microscopy with occult blood report and consult back to me with the reports results.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
