Are Blisters On Lips Symptom Of Shingles?

I have blisters on both lips, somewhat like fever blisters. They sting and itch terribly. I have had these two months. I have taken Valtrex and am using Protopic topical also. I have seen my family physician and also a dermatologist. Could this be shingles?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your case history, you are suffering from Herpes labialis, my treatment advice is:

1. Do not squeeze the lesions as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic cream like Fusiderm cream on it.
3. Other treatment options are oral Antibiotics and oral Acyclovir taken only after consulting a Dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harshit Bhachech
