Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Are Compression Socks Advisable For The Swollen Leg?
I bruised my shin with a hammer 5 days ago. My leg is swollen from the knee down and itches. I had a goose egg immediately when I hit it. it did not break the skin, but my entire leg is sore to the touch. I am flying 4.5 hours tomorrow and was wondering if there was any risks for a blood clot. I do have compression socks to wear if you feel that would be a good idea. Thanks Jon
noted history of swollen leg after trauma. the swelling on the affected area may be decreased by application of cold compress. yes, it may also help if you wear compressive stockings. if the swelling persists and other symptoms appear (such as difficulty in ambulation, severe pain, etc.), it is best if you consult with a doctor for physical examination and clinical evaluation. fractures must be ruled-out. diagnostics (xray or MRI) and management will be directed accordingly.
hope this helps.
good day!!
