Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My wife has had a viral related cough for three weeks, and was prescribed a cough syrup with codine. Several days later they gave her an antibiotic. The problem is that now in cough spasms she cannot breath. This has happened several times now. There is no airway obstruction. I don t know much about asthma, but that is what I think of when I see this.
hello there! asthma is actually composed of a triad of cough, dyspnea or difficulty in breathing, and wheezing. Specially if you had a family history of asthma/ a history of asthma itself and allergy. Asthma attack is usually triggers by allergens, upper resp. tract infections, stress, smoking that can cause inflammation and spasm of the tracheobronchial tree which results to breathlessness. i would suggest that you need to consult a pulmonologist for evaluation of your status during attack. avoid ALL ALLERGENS, lessen the stress, stop smoking, treat upper resp tract infections.
