Are Delayed Menstruation And Sore Nipples Symptoms Of Pregnancy?

I m not sure if I am going crazy or what. My nipples are beyond sore to touch. It is at the point that it is uncomfortable to wear a shirt. My period is 15 days late yet all hpt are negative. Can I still be pregnant or is there something else that is wrong?

Thank you for your query.

Menstrual cycles are regulated primarily by the hormones like estrogen and progesterone under the influence of FSH & LH ( follicle stimulating hormone and leutenizing hormone).
These hormones fluctuate throughout your cycle, in a programmed manner, to bring about follicular development, ovulation, & preparing the endometrium for a possible pregnancy. if a woman doesn't conceive in a cycle, hormones change accordingly to bring about a period.

In certain women, the hormonal changes that bring about menstrual cycles fluctuate widely and give rise to the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome.

The length of the first half of your cycle, that is till you ovulate, is usually fixed but may vary due to external factors such as stress, travel, emotional distress, illness etc. The second half ( ovulation to the next period) , however is usually fixed for a particular woman ( may vary between women).

Certain functional cysts of the other ovary may lead to anovulatory cycles ( cycles in which ovulation doesn't occur- which is common during the child bearing age) in which your cycles may be delayed / irregular for the period that the cyst remains.

If you have regular periods and multiple home pregnancy tests are negative for two weeks of your period due date, it is unlikely that your are pregnant.

I would recommend a visit to your OBGYN who could examine you and look for any cysts or rule out any other pathology that could be delaying your period.
If it is a functional cyst and no other abnormality detected, you may be given the option of just waiting it out or medications to induce your period.

I hope this helps.
