Are Diarrhea, Painful Anus, Bloated Colon And Gas The Symptoms Of IBS?

I was diagnosed with IBS last 2 years. Had done colonoscopy in March 2015 and result was good. My doctor suggested to do next scanning in 2018. Diarrhea, loosen stools, anus pain, bloated colon, passing gas are IBS symptoms? Should i have another colonoscopy now? Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello.

While this can all be from IBS, it could now be a sign of a bacterial colitis like E. coli, salmonella, or C. diff, so, if I were your doctor, I would send a stool specimen to the lab for cultures and sensitivities to see if you need a course of antibiotics. I would also screen you for a possible H pylori bacterial stomach infection.

No need for another colonoscopy for now.
