Are Dizziness And Migraines A Symptom Of PCOS?

Hi, my name is Sharon. My daughter was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome a few years ago. Since little is known about PCOS, can you tell me if symptoms like dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting and migraines are related to PCOS? She has already had blood work done (nothing found), CT (was ok), Echocardiogram (found nothing) and just recently was on a heart monitor for two weeks (also found nothing).

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a condition that affects a woman’s hormone levels. In PCOS individuals, there is production of higher-than-normal amounts of male hormones. It causes irregular menstrual periods, acne, weight gain, male-type baldness, dark patches of skin and headache. It may have its effect in the form of infertility, metabolic syndrome and depression. Dizziness, lightheadedness and fainting could be caused due to iron deficiency following irregular periods and heavy blood loss during menstruation. You can undertake complete hemogram along with iron profile investigation and supplement with iron, folic acid and vitamin B12 to overcome these symptoms, if caused due to iron deficiency.
