Are Drugs That Help Increase Bone Density Safe?

Thank you! I am a 61 year old female who has just been told that I ha e severe osteoporosis. I am in very good health otherwise and the only drug I take is for an under active thyroid. I eat right and exercise and I am slim. My doctor wants me on a drug to increase my Bone density but I am very Leary of drugs. I do not know if they are effective and safe. What do you recommend. Is a drug necessary? Marilyn

Hello,

Thanks for asking a question at Health care magic

I will be glad to answer your question.

The drug is absolutely necessary or else how will the severe osteoporosis gets treated ?

You may land up in fractures in minor falls if you don't get treated for severe osteoporosis.

So, please take the drug.

It can be taken at the convenience of monthly once even. Ask your doc about it.

Hope this helps

Best Regards

Dr Chaithanya
