Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Are Dry Mouth And Excessive Thirst Symptoms Of Type 2 Diabetes?
Yes, Please. I have had excessive thirst , urination and dry mouth. For the last 2 years I went off sugar, carbs, and dairy. I lost the weight I wanted and felt great. My blood sugar went down. I had been diagnosed as a pre diabetic and was put on Medformin. After not having sugar for the year and the positive change my doctor took me off Metformin. The diet I was on was mostly soy and due to my history I had to go off that diet. Slowly I have reintroduced sugar and carbs. Could this send me into type 2 diabetes? Are my symptoms sounding like type 2 ? Should I go off the sugar again?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain it seems that dry mouth, excessive thirst, can be signs of diabetes and dry mouth is a common oral manifestation of of Diabetes..
Consult a Diabetologist and get evaluated and he can advise you to get blood sugar levels CA both fasting and post meal along with Glycosylated Hemoglobin levels HbA1c checked..
In case if the blood sugar levels and higher than normal range then you can be advised Oral Hypoglycemic drugs to bring the blood sugar levels to normal range.. Along with it dietary modifications like curbing intake of refined carbohydrates, doing moderate workout and taking appropriate rest and avoiding stress can help.. As of now to reduce dry mouth you can chew sugarfree chewing gums and suck tart candies..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
