General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Mirena coil has no effect on blood pressure.
Blood pressure can increase following the use of combined hormonal contraceptives (Estorgen+Progestin). The hormone Estrogen appears to be responsible for the increased blood pressure during its chronic use.
Since the Mirena coil contains only Progestin, it is thought to have no effect on blood pressure and can be used to have its contraceptive effect while taking the treatment for the high blood pressure with certain life style modifications. Hope this helps.
