Are Fatigue And Flu Like Symptoms Normal After A Kidney Shock Wave Treatment?

My husband underwent kidney stone shockwave treatment, 4 weeks ago, unsuccessfully. He will undergo the same treatment next week. In the 4 week interval, he had felt really bad, rather fluish. He has no energy and is constantly tired. Is this normal! Thank you for any response. Christine

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Fever, flu or fatigue like symptoms are not seen in all the patients but a few who present with UTI, upper ureteral or kidney stones.

If your husband has flu & fatigue, report to the treating doctor & get him physically examined & treated. He may need antibiotics & blood tests.

Such patients need prophylactic treatment or may need nephrostomy

There is risk of infection or kidney damage when fragments of stone block the flow of urine.

Kidney shock treatment success rate is good so you may not worry.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
